Why Choose Bruce & Sons
You're not buying from some guy with a pickup truck eyeballing measurements. Tom spent nine years smoking award-winning brisket at T2 BBQ in Kingston with the same cooking wood we sell now. He knows what burns clean because he's used it professionally, not just sold it.
This is a Harrowsmith family business—Tom and his sons Jacob and Josh. The custom crane trailer drops tote bags right at your campsite without tearing up the ground. When you call, Tom answers. When the wood shows up, it's properly seasoned and measured.

Our Process & Promise
-

Real BBQ Background
Tom spent nine years smoking award-winning brisket at T2 BBQ in Kingston with the same cooking wood we sell now. Most firewood suppliers are just moving wood—Tom knows what burns clean and what throws the right smoke because he's cooked with it professionally.
-

No BS, Just Dry Wood
Our heating firewood is seasoned a full year minimum. When we say 64 cubic feet in a tote or 198 in a dump load, that's measured, not eyeballed. Custom sizing available if your firebox needs something other than standard 16-inch cuts.

We Bring It to Your Site
The custom-built crane trailer drops tote bags right at your campsite without tearing up the ground. Most suppliers won't bother—we built the equipment specifically so we could. Tom answers the phone, and you know where to find us if something goes sideways.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much wood do I need for a weekend camping trip?
Depends on how much you're actually burning. If you're running a fire from dinner until bedtime both nights, figure on about half a face cord for the weekend. That's enough to keep a decent fire going without rationing your last few pieces on Sunday morning.
Our large tote bags hold enough for a full week or two of camping, so a weekend trip barely makes a dent. Most people end up bringing the leftovers home or leaving them for the next group. If you're splitting a tote with another campsite, that works too.
What's included in your camping wood mix?
A mix of hardwood and softwood, cut to various sizes. The common myth is that hardwood is best for campfires, but you actually need softwood in the mix if you want a proper glow along with the bed of coals. Hardwood gives you the coals for cooking and long burn times. Softwood gives you the flame and that campfire glow everyone wants when they're telling stories after dark.
We don't separate it out by species because the mix is what makes a good campfire. You're not getting construction scraps or pallet wood—just proper seasoned firewood that lights easily and burns clean.
How far in advance should I order?
Call us a few days before you need it, especially during busy season. We're not running a massive operation with fifty trucks on the road, so if you wait until Friday afternoon for a Saturday delivery, we might already be booked. A week's notice is better. Two weeks if it's a long weekend in the summer. Off-season, we can usually get to you faster. Winter heating orders should be planned out well ahead—don't call in January when you're down to your last armload and expect same-day delivery.
What if I'm not home during delivery?
Call ahead and let us know where you want it dropped. We can leave totes in your driveway, at your campsite, or wherever makes sense. Most people aren't home for deliveries, and that's fine as long as we know where to put it. The crane trailer means we can place totes pretty much anywhere accessible without needing you there to help unload. We accept cash, e-transfer, or debit at the door. If you're not around, just send the e-transfer before we deliver and we're good to go.
Do you deliver to my area?
We deliver anywhere in the Kingston area—Harrowsmith, Sydenham, Inverary, Bath, Yarker, Battersea, and the surrounding region. If you're further out toward Tweed or Pittsburgh, give us a call. Delivery charges vary depending on distance, but we'll tell you the total cost up front before we load the truck.
If you're at a campground or cottage and you're not sure if we can get there, call anyway. The crane trailer gets into places most suppliers won't bother with.
What's the difference between your cooking wood species?
Each species throws different smoke and flavour. Apple and cherry are mild and sweet—good for pork and poultry. Hickory's strong and sharp, the classic choice for ribs and brisket. Maple's in the middle, clean-burning and versatile. Oak's similar to maple but burns a bit longer and works well for just about anything.
Tom spent nine years cooking professionally with this wood, so if you're not sure what you need, just tell us what you're smokin,g and we'll point you in the right direction. We carry it in 12-inch cut and split pieces or chunks, depending on what your setup needs.
Can you cut wood to custom sizes?
Yeah, if your firebox or stove needs something other than the standard 16-inch heating cuts or 12-inch cooking pieces, we can do that. Just let us know when you order so we can plan for it. Custom sizing usually adds a bit of time to the order, so don't wait until the last minute.
Most people stick with standard sizes because that's what fits most stoves and fireboxes around here, but if you've got an older stove or a specific setup, we'll make it work.
*We deliver anywhere in the Kingston area and accept cash, e-transfer and NOW debit at the door!
